Top 10 places to add to your Instagram in the Tamworth region

We all know that people travel to places which will be good for the ‘gram, or IG, or insta… whatever you may call it.

So we have gathered the top 10 spots in the Tamworth region that you’ll want to add to your feed, plus you’ll have a great time while you’re there!  Not only have we featured some beautiful natural and scenic locations, but also a couple of classic touristy spots.

Most importantly, when you visit the Tamworth region and post to Instagram, make sure you tag us @tamworthnsw or #tamworthnsw to give us permission to share your shots!

The Big Golden Guitar

Okay, okay, we know you are probably thinking this is a bit cheesy. But the numbers speak for themselves! The Tamworth Visitor Information Centre at the  Big Golden Guitar gets over 100,000 visitors per year and a photo in front of it is a must for a couple of reasons – it’s popular, it’s perfect to get a selfie in front of, and it’s iconic to Tamworth. If ‘touristy’ spots are not your thing though, there are plenty of other Instagrammable places in our top 10 which might be more to your liking.

Hanging Rock Lookout

Hanging Rock Lookout is a favourite for lovebirds and is well-known as a location for an engagement shoot (or even an engagement itself!). But you don’t have to be a couple to get that killer Instagram shot here. The lookout is just a 20 minute drive from Nundle and faces directly west, so you can get those dreamy golden hour sunset shots which cast a beautiful light over the scenic Peel Valley below. If you are at the lookout late afternoon,  why not spend the night in nearby Nundle?

Barraba Silo Art

Barraba is quickly becoming an art hub, and the most recognisable of all their public artworks is The Water Diviner. Located at the southern entrance to the town, this incredible 40-metre-high artwork is a must- stop Instagram spot! Either get a candid shot in front, a selfie or  a straight up shot of the silos on their own. When you’re in Barraba, be sure to check out the  Beyond the Wall and The Bedtime Story artworks in the heart of the town.

Oxley Scenic Lookout

This is the original Instagram site of Tamworth. For almost 80 years, the Oxley Scenic Lookout has been a popular spot for a good pic with both locals and visitors. Facing south-west, it provides stunning sunsets and a picturesque view of Tamworth with the Duri hills in the distance. The lookout is only a 5 minute drive from the Tamworth CBD.

King George V Avenue

This beautiful avenue is lined with oak trees and has featured in a tonne of photoshoots, a Hollywood movie and of course many Instagram pics! “King George Ave” – as it’s affectionately referred to by locals – is walking distance from the CBD and is fully connected by concrete paths (although the avenue itself does not have a path). If you go down there at night, say hello to the resident ghost who many locals will have a story about.

Horton Falls

Yes, the Tamworth region has a waterfall! Horton Falls is probably the most Instagram-esque spot in the region and is only a 35 minute drive from Barraba. You can really get creative here and get a range of shots which will light up your feed. The flow of the waterfall can vary greatly and the best time to visit is after  rain when it is in full flow.

Sheba Dams

Sheba Dams are just off the side of the road  only a 15 minute drive from Nundle. Very popular with locals and day trippers from Tamworth and surrounds, Sheba Dams are from a fairytale. With the jetty that runs out onto the main dam, you’ll get an amazing candid shot dangling your legs, leaning on the rail, jumping in the water or on the water in a kayak.

Chaffey Dam

You’re probably thinking that Chaffey is good for skiing or fishing and it  is! It’s also good for an amazing dawn image out on the water in a kayak. If you’re lucky, you’ll get some fog settling in close to the water’s surface and the sky lighting up as the sun rises. The early bird really catches the worm when it comes to getting the best pic on Chaffey. It’s worth camping to make the most of it and is only a 40 minute drive from Tamworth or  15 minutes from Nundle.

Moonbi Lookout

Set high in the Moonbi Range, this breathtaking view can be found between Moonbi and Bendemeer just a 25 minute drive from Tamworth. The Moonbi Lookout overlooks the Tamworth area and on display is a beautiful view of mountains, hills, valleys and rivers.

An amazing spot to get that perfect shot for the ‘gram!

Tamworth Marsupial Park

The Tamworth Marsupial Park has been a long time favourite for families. There’s nothing that the Gram loves more than a cute animal pic. With a wide range of friendly animals to get up close and personal with you’ll be sure to get a cracking shot. The park includes a hug avery with a wide variety of birds and an adventure playground for the kids.
