Remembrance Day marks the end of the First World War – the war to end all wars.
For Australia, the war represented an obligation as a part of the Empire and an opportunity as a new nation to assert itself as worthy of its position in the world.
For Tamworth and the New England region, the war was fought on distant battlefields in foreign lands yet, for many, it was a deeply personal event.
From the Tamworth district with a population fewer than 10,000, approximately 1,500 men had enlisted into the Australian Imperial Force throughout the war and served in theatres across the world.
In this Remembrance Day-eve TamTalk, we will explore the stories of the 33rd Battalion and the 12th Light Horse Regiment from their establishment to their demobilisation and gain an insight into the men who constituted these units through their own personal testimonies.
