The Tamworth region is a treasure trove of experiences spread across a whopping 9,893km². Located about 400km north-west of Sydney, 250km from Newcastle and 550km south of Brisbane, the Tamworth region is easily accessed by road, air or railway and ready to be discovered.

It’s also the perfect spot to base yourself while you explore regional NSW; whether that’s the New England (Uralla, Armidale, Guyra, Walcha), the North-West (Gunnedah and Narrabri), the Liverpool Plains (Quirindi, Willow Tree) or the Upper Hunter (Murrurundi, Merriwa and Scone).

Tamworth Regional Airport is located just 10 minutes from the Tamworth CBD. 

Regular direct flights between Tamworth and Sydney take just over one hour and are operated by Qantas.

Regular direct flights between Tamworth and Brisbane take just over one hour and are operated by Link Airways.

 

Daily train and coach services operate between Tamworth and a number of cities, coastal destinations and regional centres including Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Gosford, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Armidale, Tenterfield, Inverell, Scone, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Quirindi, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri, Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst.

Getting around

The Tamworth region and New England North-West is ideal to explore by car. If you don’t have your own vehicle, hire cars are available at Tamworth Regional Airport or in the Tamworth CBD. We suggest getting off the beaten track and exploring the region’s towns and villages. After all, the journey is just as good as the destination!

  • Hanging Rock – 1 hour (66km)
  • Nundle – 50 minutes (59km)
  • Bendemeer – 30 minutes (40km)
  • Manilla – 35 minutes (45km)
  • Moonbi – 20 minutes (21km)
  • Kootingal – 15 minutes (18km)

Daily bus services are operated by Tamworth Buslines within the Tamworth region to Attunga, Bendemeer, Kootingal, Manilla, Moonbi and Somerton.
