Less than 20 minutes’ drive to the north-east of Tamworth, you’ll find the villages of Kootingal and Moonbi as you start to climb the Great Dividing Range.   

What you need to know about Kootingal:  

  • Backing onto the Cockburn River, Kootingal is located in a small valley in the Moonbi Range. It’s the perfect spot to live like a local with quintessential country views, facilities and hospitality.  
  • Kootingal was founded as an Aboriginal mission.  
  • If you love an adventure, you’re in the right place! You’ll find farm tours, horse-riding, paintball and laser tag all within a stone’s throw. 

What you need to know about Moonbi:  

  • The peak of the Moonbi Ranges sits 1,300m above sea level.  
  • Moonbi was settled in 1856 when bullock teams and travellers began passing through the region in search of land for livestock.   
  • The village is renowned as a centre for the poultry industry. Keep an eye out for the big chicken next to Moonbi Museum, which is also the site of a mural by artist, Penny Shepherd.
