With varying difficulty, the one thing these trails all have in common is that they’re best experienced on foot and guaranteed to give you a view of the region that you didn’t even know you were missing.

Kamilaroi Walking Track, Tamworth

Length: 400m to 5km

Features: uneven surface, bush walking, uphill, some paths shared with mountain bike trails, dogs permitted on a leash

Begin at: Oxley Scenic Lookout, White Street, East Tamworth

The Kamilaroi Walking Track consists of multiple trails winding their way through the bushland of Oxley Park linking the Tamworth Botanic Gardens, Marsupial Park, Oxley Scenic Lookout and Flagstaff Mountain over several kilometres. Some sections of the walking track are moderate however other sections are quite challenging. Along the way, signage will provide insights into the local Aboriginal culture, history, and connection to the land, and you may even spot some local wildlife! If you want a truly Tamworth experience, pick the Flagstaff Mountain walk – a favourite amongst locals!

Length: 1.4km Southern Loop, 1.1km Northern Loop and 3.4km Southridge Trail

Begin at: Tamworth Mountain Bike Park, 194 Forest Road, North Tamworth.

Translating to Stone Axe Pathway, the Yuundu Warruwi wins through natural bushland across the traditional Gamilaroi pathway between the Peel River and Stone Axe Quarry in the Daruka Hills. Offering stunning views of the area, this walk is a purpose-built, pedestrian-only trail with signage along the way detailing traditional Aboriginal practices.

Begin at: Country Music Hands of Fame Park, Corner of Kable Avenue and Brisbane Street, Tamworth

Discover the rich culture of Australian country music without leaving the Tamworth CBD! Starting at the Country Music Hands of Fame Park, head down Brisbane Street and turn right onto Peel Street where you’ll begin your journey along Winner’s Walkway where plaques acknowledge the winners of past Golden Guitar Awards. Along the way, you’ll come across bronze statues of country music icons Slim Dusty and Joy McKean, John Williamson and Smoky Dawson before you pull-up stumps at the Country Music Pioneers Parade in Bicentennial Park. This walk forms part of the Country Music Trail, a self-guided tour of Tamworth’s country music heritage attractions.

Discover local history and culture through visual storytelling on the Public Art Trail, all whilst working towards your 10,000 steps! Winding through the Tamworth CBD, the trail includes sculptures, installations, murals and statues across themes including local Aboriginal stories, Tamworth First City of Light, and Country Music Capital. Manilla Bridge to Bridge Walk

Manilla Bridge to Bridge Walk

Begin at: Namoi River Bridge, Manilla Street, Manilla

Following the Namoi River through Manilla, this walking trail connects two bridges, creating a loop that takes between 2.5 and 3 hours to complete. From the Namoi River Bridge on Manilla Street (Fossickers Way), you’ll pass the junction of the Namoi and Manilla Rivers, the Manilla Showground and the old Railway Bridge, as well as parklands, and captivating birdlife.

Difficulty rating: Easy to moderate

Length: 1.5km

Features: Three Viewing Platforms, a bridge lookout and three rest areas with seating at each, elevated pathways, dogs permitted, water refill stations, bus and accessible/disabled parking spaces

Begin at: Lower entry – Endeavour Drive, suitable for users who are less mobile or who use a wheelchair or pram up to Viewing Platform Two. Upper entry – Top of Scenic Road, accessible to Scenic Road Bridge lookout.

Perfect for a morning, afternoon or evening walk, the Tamworth Regional Skywalk is an accessible, pedestrian-only elevated pathway leading up to Oxley Scenic Lookout. Take in views of Tamworth’s Victoria Park and the Liverpool Ranges, before pausing for a complete view of Tamworth and the Peel River Valley from the top. Please note the middle section of the walk does contain stairs, however each platform is wheelchair and pram friendly from either the top or bottom.

Features: Sealed walkway that’s suitable for prams, bikes, electric chairs and wheelchairs. Toilets and picnic tables available, and it’s pet friendly!

Begin at: Behind Fossickers Tourist Park, walk along the river and connect to the Historic walk from Inness Street
