Relocating can be stressful with new people, places and services to get your head around. We’ve compiled a list of the basics to get you started and settled into the Tamworth region.  

 

 

Waste and recycling

Council provides a three-bin collection system - red, yellow and green lidded bins - with services varying depending on your location within the region. Full details on what can and can’t go in your bin is available at Council’s website

The easiest way to find out when your bins will be collected is by downloading the MyTRC App and searching your property address. You can also download a Waste Services Calendar in the  'Collection Day'  section

 

In lieu of a regular Bulky Waste collection, each year Tamworth Regional Council offers all residential properties four waste vouchers to use at the local Waste Management Facility.

For residents who don’t have access to a trailer or ute to transport bulky waste, our Waste Wagon service is available for a subsidised price.

The Tamworth Region has a total of 11 waste management facilities, which are only suitable for small vehicles.

Pets and Animals

All pet owners in NSW are required to have their pets registered and microchipped and should practise responsible pet ownership. When you move, make sure that your microchipping address is updated to your new address.

Roads, transport and parking

There are varied free, timed and paid parking options across the region. Different parking options may suit you depending on the purpose and length of your stay.  

Disabled parking is signposted in the Tamworth CBD and reserved for those with a disability or a mobile parking scheme (MPS) permit. Parking concessions apply to MPS holders.  

Residential parking permits are not required in the Tamworth region.

Rates and other Council payments

You can settle your rates and other bills from Council online, over the phone or in person.  

How to pay your rates

 

There are several ways Council may be able to help if you need assistance including payment agreements, interest concessions, deferral or postponement and discounts. Any property owner experiencing difficulty paying their property-related debt is encouraged to reach out to Council to discuss a mutually agreeable arrangement.

Please notify Council as soon as possible if your postal address is different to that shown on your rates notice and/or water notice. Council can accept change of postal address notification from a Managing Agent on behalf of a property owner.

Development and permits

In certain circumstances, you will need approval to build a shed, fence or driveway on your land in the Tamworth region. If you are unsure, we encourage you to contact Council’s Customer Service team.  

  • Shed – approvals are required for sheds though rural sheds may be exempt 
  • Fence – approvals are required for fences over a certain height  
  • Driveways – a Section 138 approval is required to be lodged via the NSW Planning Portal.

Parks, pools and community facilities

We have all kinds of parks and playgrounds for the community to across the Tamworth region. Facilities vary at each.

There are seven public swimming pools in the Tamworth region which are generally open between October and April each year. Once finalised, opening dates are published on Tamworth Regional Council’s website.

Water

Water for residents of the Tamworth region is sourced from Chaffey Dam, Dungowan Dam, Split Rock Dam, Peel River, MacDonald River, Namoi River, Manilla River and a series of local bores (dependant on where you live). Water is provided to the community through a water treatment process.
