The Tamworth region is serviced by commercial airlines via Tamworth Regional Airport (located just 10 minutes from the Tamworth CBD), making travel for work, family commitments and holidays straightforward.  

  • Regular direct flights between Tamworth and Sydney take just over one hour and are operated by QantasLink.   
  • Regular direct flights between Tamworth and Brisbane take just over one hour and are operated by Link Airways.  

The Tamworth region is easily accessed by car via the New England and Oxley Highways, and Fossickers Way to the north. Scenic drives connect the city of Tamworth with the rest of the region alongside surrounding regional centres like Gunnedah, Armidale and Scone.    

Tamworth is located:  

  • About three-and-a-half hours north-west of Newcastle along the Hunter Expressway and New England Highway.  
  • An easy five-hour drive from Sydney via the Pacific Motorway, Hunter Expressway and New England Highway.  
  • A scenic seven-hour drive from Brisbane on the Cunningham and New England Highways.  

Comfortable and affordable, daily train and coach services operate between Tamworth and a number of cities, coastal destinations and regional centres including Sydney, Brisbane, Newcastle, Port Macquarie, Gosford, Coffs Harbour, Grafton, Armidale, Tenterfield, Inverell, Scone, Muswellbrook, Singleton, Quirindi, Gunnedah, Moree, Narrabri, Dubbo, Orange and Bathurst.
