Tamworth is the major health centre for the New England North West with facilities to reflect this status. The Tamworth Base Hospital is a 265 bed public hospital with a twenty four hour emergency. The Base also provides acute care, speciallist services and community health services.

Tamworth also has access to the Tamara Private Hospital which is a 77 bed hospital offering modern operating theatres, obstetrics, radiology and day surgery. The hospital specialises in orthopaedics, general surgery, ophthamology, obstetrics and gynaecology.

Since 1840 residents of Tamworth have received first class medical attention by the dedicated team at Tamworth Hospital. Although much has changed since that time, one thing remains the same, the pride our hospital staff take in delivering the best health outcomes for patients.

Today our 650 staff use a combination of good old fashioned hard work and the latest technology to deliver the very best treatment options for patients.

Tamworth Hospital is the second largest acute hospital facility within the Hunter New England Health area with 276 beds and a 24-hour Emergency Department.

Indeed it has one of the best performing Emergency Departments in the area treating more than 36,000 patients annually within categorised triage timeframes.

The surgical team continues to perform outstandingly, meeting the NSW elective surgery waiting list benchmark for the fifth year in a row.

Other key services offered at the hospital include a diagnostic cardiac catheterisation laboratory, burns unit, rehabilitation services (including brain injury), a diabetes centre, mental health unit, renal services, oncology, radiology and pathology.
