REGIONAL INFORMATION & RESOURCESEMPLOYMENT

Employment

Employment remains a strong and vibrant part of the Tamworth region’s economic and social profile. It’s a region of good quality employment prospects with continued high demand for skilled workers.

If you’re a qualified tradesman, or a skilled professional, then you are top of employers shopping lists in the Tamworth region. Engineering, planning, hospitality, hairdressing, mechanical, finance, accounting and managerial jobs are among the areas where there are great opportunities for secure employment.

By far, the largest area of employment is the retain sector, with the health and community services sector the second biggest employer.

The areas of manufacturing, agriculture, and education  are the next three largest sectors of employment. More recently, Tamworth jobs have gone through the roof – literally. The building boom in housing and commercial development has translated into a significant jobs generator for construction workers. Building firms are crying out for all types of trades-qualified staff, including everyone from plumbers, builders and brickies, to roofers, tilers and cabinet makers. And local labourers for those building and construction trades are just as scarce and being targeted by employers as far away as coastal NSW.

There are also strong job prospects in our meat processing plants, with increased production levels at local abattoirs sparking more demand for boners, packers and slaughter floor staff.

Trades vacancies for boilermakers, fitters, refrigeration mechanics and auto electricians exist as well. If you’re got a trade qualification it’s basically a ticket to a good job and secure career.

In the summer months, hospitality and retail jobs increase right across the board in Tamworth. There are also recent increases in vacancies for administrative staff, with demand for legal secretaries, office managers and accounts staff.
